Hans J. Wegner is wildly regarded as one of Denmarks most prolific and talented designs of the “Golden Age’ of modern Danish design.  He began his career as a cabinetmaker in 1932, before studying at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, where he met his colleague and friend, Børge Mogensen.

The J16 rocking chair was one of his first chairs ever put into production. The very first version was designed in 1944. Wegner’s J16 has proved so viable that it has been in demand ever since it first came on the market.

J16 is a work of art conceived to support the human body.  The natural paper cord forming the seat adds support while creating a subtle contrast in texture to the smooth solid wooden structure.  Precise engineering of the component contribute to the graceful rocking movement.
